Why Upgrade Your Exhaust?

Jun 20th 2016

There are a number of reasons you may want to install custom motorcycle exhausts on your ride, but the most common reason we see customers ordering our kits is to improve performance on their bikes. Both overall efficiency and power can be dramatically enhanced by an aftermarket exhaust system. Remember, factory exhausts are constructed to meet the manufacturer’s minimum requirements so the bike’s performance matches the detailed specifications. Manufacturers only spend as much money on the parts as is absolutely necessary. Once the bike is in your possession, they leave it up to you to customize the ride to your needs. Why should you consider upgrading your exhaust?

It’s Vital for Your Bike

The exhaust system is key in keeping your engine running at optimal levels. The system guides the exhaust to the back of the bike, funneling it away from the engine. Since it works in such close proximity to the engine itself and handles the high temperatures generated by the combustion of the fuel, the pipes have to be able to withstand intense temperature variations. Further, it makes the ride tolerable. Without a proper exhaust system, the sound of the engine would be overwhelming and would make riding the motorcycle almost impossible. Not only would the noise be deafening, but the vibration from the engine would make steering and balancing incredibly difficult, especially at high speeds.

Factory Systems Aren’t the Most Powerful

Your OEM exhaust is designed to meet manufacturer standards for noise, horsepower, and emissions requirements. This means manufacturers may sacrifice horsepower to satisfy their own regulations. However, our custom motorcycle exhausts are designed to give your bike the most power possible without worrying about sound restrictions or emissions requirements. Your bike will still need to meet the emissions standards in your state, but those are often different from what the manufacturer deems best.

How Power is Increased

Factory exhaust systems simply don’t breathe as well, meaning the burned fuel moves away from your engine more slowly. While this does reduce the noise of your bike, it also prevents your engine from reaching the maximum amount of horsepower and torque. An aftermarket exhaust moves the fuel and heat away from your engine more quickly and gives you a noticeable increase in both horsepower and torque. Not only will your engine be more efficient, but you’ll also notice an increase in noise, giving you the ideal ratio of performance and engine rumble as you cruise down the highway.

Riding without Exhaust

While you may think that riding without your exhaust pipes will give you better horsepower and torque, there are a number of reasons why you should simply upgrade your exhaust rather than remove it. The noise level would be far too great and could cause permanent hearing damage over time. Further, exhaust pipes direct the spent gas and fumes away from your bike. Without an exhaust system, you’d be sitting in a cloud of harmful fumes whenever your bike wasn’t moving. These fumes can make you sick and, in severe instances, can cause death. Your exhaust system is absolutely essential in maintaining a properly functioning motorcycle.
