Should You Ride a Bike or a Trike?
Jul 8th 2016
At RC Components, we understand that not everyone favors life on two wheels. In fact, many of our customers prefer riding trikes rather than traditional two-wheeled motorcycles. We’re proud to offer a number of accessories and components that are compatible with trike hardware and strongly believe that everyone, whether riding on two or three wheels, deserves to have a one-of-a-kind bike. However, if you’re considering buying a new bike, or switching to a trike, there are a few things to consider. Today, we’ll take a look at some of the benefits of riding a trike.
Balance
The most noticeable difference between a bike and a trike is the stability. While motorcycles can be difficult to balance on, especially for older or more inexperienced riders, trikes provide a stable platform. Even at a stop, you can keep your feet on the footboards, rather than having to straddle the bike. This offers a distinct advantage in cities with a lot of stop-and-go traffic, making it easier to transition between moving and stopping.
Look
There’s no denying that trikes have a very distinctive look on the road. Even individuals who are not fascinated by motorcycles seem to study them when they’re parked in public lot. Trikes are far less common and naturally get the attention of those passing by. So, if you want to stand out from the crowd with minimal effort, a trike may be the best option.
Customization
Just like a bike, a trike can be upgraded and customized however you see fit. More surface area on the bike gives you more options for a custom paint job. More wheels allows you to show off your personality with custom motorcycle wheels and rims even more than on a bike. Further, RC Components carries trike kits for you to add a custom motorcycle exhaust to your ride. The options are just as limitless for a trike as they are for a bike.
Comfort
If touring and long-distance rides are your forte, trikes offer distinct advantages over bikes in comfort and ease of use. Trikes often offer a smoother, more passive riding experience, opening the world of motorcycle touring to a wider audience. Best of all, many trikes include built-in storage options, making it possible to haul more gear without the use of a trailer or extra saddlebags.
Passengers
Carrying a passenger is not the easiest thing to do on a normal bike. They have to sit still, listen to the cues and instructions you give them, and have to hold on tight during turns. No matter how comfortable you get with carrying additional people, you’ll always have to worry about their actions as you’re driving. On a trike, the passenger has a stable place to sit, giving them the freedom to look around, stretch their back, and move a little without threatening to tip the bike.
It’s Still a Motorcycle
While you can’t lean into turns or cut through narrow spaces, you’ll find that most of what you can do on a bike can be done on a trike, but with a bit more comfort and ease. Better yet, even the most inexperienced rider can succeed when riding a trike.
If you’re looking to change out your fleet or are just getting into the world of motorcycle ownership, a trike may be the right fit for you. And if you’re looking to completely customize your ride, RC Components can help. Upgrade your exhaust with our custom motorcycle exhaust and browse our accessories for other custom additions.
