In today’s post, we’ll provide you with several tips that can help you stay safe on the roads this holiday season.

Safe Riding Tips
Invest in Winter Tires
If you’re going to be taking your bike out on potentially icy or wet roads, then you need to ensure that you have the right tires. You should at least be using a set of all-weather tires that have at least 50 percent tread remaining, but we recommend purchasing a set of tires that you can use exclusively during the winter. Many cold-weather tires on today’s market heat up faster than normal tires, and they also provide you with the extra traction you need while you’re traveling on potentially snowy roads. If you need help finding tires that fit your custom chrome motorcycle wheels, then just reach out to us and we’ll be happy to help.
Watch the Road
While this point sounds somewhat obvious, it’s one of the most crucial aspects of winter riding. You’re used to watching out for potholes, debris, and other hazards while you ride in warm weather, and you need to be even more vigilant while you ride during the winter. Black ice, de-icing salt, and cracks in the road can all be difficult to see until it’s too late to slow down, so always go a bit slower and keep a sharp eye on the road conditions where you’re riding.
Wear the Right Gear
While much of the motorcycle gear available on today’s market is both warm and comfortable, you should never get on your bike for a winter ride without specialty gear designed for cold-weather riding. Standard gloves, jackets, and pants won’t keep the frigid wind out at high speeds, and you can easily become too cold to continue riding halfway through your trip. Moreover, without the proper gloves, your hands may become too cold to properly use the brakes and handlebar. You should also evaluate your helmet and invest in a face guard, as riding at high speeds in cold weather can quickly dry out your eyes and face. Before the snow really starts to fall, take a look through your closet and evaluate each piece of gear you regularly wear. If a certain item isn’t rated for winter riding, then buy yourself an early gift and invest in gear that will keep you warm and safe on the road.
Stay Home If It’s Snowing
When the weather outside is frightful, do yourself a favor and either stay home or use an alternative mode of transportation. Snowy roads can be slick and hazardous, even with the proper tires. As we discussed above, snowfall can also obscure hazards like potholes and cracks in the road, and the last thing you want is to have to repair your bike as you’re beginning to shop for your friends and family. At RC Components, we know that you bought your motorcycle and custom motorcycle parts because you love the thrill of hitting the open road, but we want you to be as safe as possible while you ride this winter.
