Common Questions From New Riders

What Do I Need to Get Started?

If you’re thinking about purchasing a motorcycle, the first thing you should do is figure out where you’ll go to obtain your motorcycle driver’s license. Some motorcycle safety foundation courses will provide you with an automatic endorsement on your current license when you complete them, but some do not. Look through the options offered in your area and be sure that you have satisfied all of the relevant state and federal requirements before taking your bike out on the road.

Once you’ve obtained your motorcycle license, it’s time to purchase the gear you need for safe and comfortable riding. The first thing you should purchase is a high-quality helmet that you can wear for long periods of time. While many veteran riders will tell you that helmets are optional, wearing a helmet is the absolute best way to keep yourself safe while you ride (plus, helmets are required by law in many states). Riding a motorcycle is inherently dangerous, and numerous studies have proven that a helmet can be the difference between life and death in the event of an accident. Even if you’re not enthusiastic about wearing a helmet for safety reasons, you’ll enjoy not being hit in the face by bugs when you’re on the road!

If you’re like most new motorcycle riders, then you’re probably looking forward to purchasing a nice leather jacket to take out on the road. However, you shouldn’t settle for just any leather jacket—do some searching to find a style and cut that you’ll be able to wear for long periods of time. Many of the jackets on today’s market use innovative technology that allow for great airflow while riding, while others are designed to keep you warm during a nighttime ride. Think about when you’ll be riding your bike the most and make your purchase accordingly.

Which Bike Should I Buy?

If you’re like most motorcycle enthusiasts, then you’ll probably end up buying a few different bikes during your lifetime! Most people aren’t aware that there are many different motorcycle varieties that can be purchased depending on your wants and needs. If you’re just looking for a standard bike to learn to ride on, then you’ll probably be happy with a traditional bike. Traditional motorcycles are practical and cost-effective, though you may end up finding them boring after a few years of riding.

If you’re planning to take a cross-country trip on your motorcycle, then you may want to consider purchasing a touring bike. Touring bikes are larger than traditional bikes, and they’re designed specifically with the needs of long-distance riders in mind. Many touring bikes boast large amounts of storage space, heated seats, cruise control, and larger windshields that can prevent the wind from battering you on a long drive.

If you’re looking for something a bit more fun and exhilarating, then a sport bike might be just what you’re looking for. While we don’t recommend them for beginners, sport bikes can be a lot of fun to ride when you’re ready to take on something a bit more challenging. However, even veterans should be aware that sport bikes can become difficult to control at high speeds, so please use caution whenever you’re on a sport bike!

We hope that these tips will help you acclimate to the world of motorcycles. Stay tuned for future posts in which we’ll continue to answer common questions we receive from new motorcycle riders.
