Gear Up for Fall

Aug 18th 2016

Now that Sturgis is over, it’s starting to feel like the end of summer is quickly approaching. While fall may seem like a burden to your kids, it’s actually the best season to hit the road on two wheels. Rather than roasting in your leathers like you did all summer, the cool fall weather makes riding far more enjoyable and makes it possible to take longer rides without overheating or feeling like you’re drowning in your own sweat. Here are a few reasons you should take full advantage of riding in the cooler weather.

Less Risk of Dehydration

With cooler weather on the way, you’ll be able to wear all your gear without sweating nearly as much as you did in July. This means you’ll retain more water on your rides, greatly reducing the risk of dehydration. While you’ll still need to stop frequently to drink water, you’ll notice less fatigue and less thirst along the way.

More People Are Out

There’s safety in numbers and with nicer weather, more people will be out embracing the two-wheeled life. This also means that there will be more opportunity for other riders to admire your new custom motorcycle wheels or your new air intake system that you’ve installed this summer. One of the benefits of having a custom bike is having others admire your style and the cooler weather will bring more people outside.

Beautiful Scenery

As we head deeper into autumn, the leaves will start to change. There’s nothing better than riding through a tunnel of golden trees or peeking out over a valley full of red, orange, and brown leaves as the seasons turn. In fact, fall is the perfect time to take that motorcycle road trip you’ve been planning on as the cooler temperatures will make you want to spend more time outside.

Lower Lodging Rates

Since kids have gone back to school, and more and more families are staying at home, you’ll be able to find better deals on lodging if you’re planning a road trip this fall. Hotel rates are typically lower after the demand for family vacations goes down. Avoid scheduling your trip around any major holidays if you’re looking for the best rates. If camping is more your style, you’ll be able to claim those premium sites that otherwise were booked solid through the summer. However, be prepared to bring your own water as many sites stop providing drinking water after the peak season ends.

Less Sunlight

While it may seem like a downside to fall, shorter days can actually be a benefit. As the days grow shorter, sunsets will happen earlier, so if you’re the type of rider that loves sunset rides, but hates staying out late, you’ll be able to enjoy them more frequently. Furthermore, the sun can be less intense in the fall, so you’ll be able to enjoy your time in the sun without the same intense risk of sunburn. However, sunscreen and lotion will still help keep your skin from experiencing severe windburn as you cruise down the interstate.
