Four Pieces of Gear You Should Always Be Wearing
Apr 4th 2018
Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been riding your bike for years, it’s important that you have the right gear whenever you hit the road. In today’s post, we’ll outline four pieces of gear every motorcycle enthusiast needs to have whenever they set out for a ride. When you’ve finished reading this post, head over to RC Components’ online store to find a great selection of custom motorcycle wheels, exhaust pipes, and so much more!
Helmet
No matter what the rest of your outfit consists of, a helmet is non-negotiable. A full-face helmet will keep the wind out of your eyes, prevent bugs from hitting you as you ride, and protect your brain in the event of an accident. Whichever helmet you decide to purchase, make sure that it fits tightly and comfortably—you should be wearing it whenever you hit the road!
Jacket
After you buy your helmet, the next piece of clothing you should be shopping for is a new motorcycle jacket. When you think about a motorcycle jacket, an image of a leather jacket covered in edgy patches probably comes to mind, but there are a variety of materials available on today’s market. Faux-leather, mesh, and textile motorcycle jackets are all available for those who aren’t fans of leather, and nearly all of the jackets on today’s market come with some form of extra padding. Invest in a jacket that you’re comfortable wearing for long periods of time, and consider buying one for each season if you live in an area with sharp seasonal changes.
Boots
It can be tempting to just throw on your tennis shoes before riding, but every motorcycle owner should invest in a pair of quality motorcycle boots for riding. Many boots have added protection that will keep your shins, ankles, and feet protected if your bike ever dips too close to the street. Additionally, the protection added by a good pair of boots will protect your feet in the event of a crash. Many motorcyclists who survive a crash aren’t lucky enough to physically walk away, but a high-quality pair of boots will help maximize your chances of remaining injury-free when you ride.
Gloves
Whether you’re out for an early morning errand or a crisp winter ride, it’s important to have a good pair of gloves handy whenever you ride. The wind created by riding at high speeds can numb your hands, making it difficult to steer and work your brake lever. Much like your boots, a good pair of motorcycle gloves will have added armor that acts as an extra layer of protection just in case you find yourself falling from your bike.
